Hi I have a query regarding my Model Z clutch. The clutch disengages well, now I have a thinner friction plate fitted, but my issue is with the Cam operating arm not returning when the cable is slackened. I can't see or feel any groove in the can ramp surface so am wondering if there should be a return spring attached to the operating lever, there is a small hole through the lever. If there should be a spring has anybody got any details regarding its length, shape etc and also where it located in the primary chain case.

any help with this would be welcome.

Most models I can think of did have a return spring. On the ones where the cable is vertical a compression spring is fitted between the end of the cable adjuster and the knuckle of the operating lever. On ones like the S6 and derivatives where the cable is horizontal, an extension spring is fitted between a hole in the operating arm back to a hole through the rear wall of the primary chain case casting.

Picture of the S6 type return spring below.
