Advice on buying a 1951 Douglas
« on: 11 Mar 2011 at 09:26 »
Hello,

Greetings from India!

I am planning to pick up a 1951 Douglas mark 5 (Pic Attached) and sadly the bike is not in a great shape.
The previous owner has changed the front forks and altered the rear ones.
Before I pick this I would like your valuable suggestions as to how easy will it be for me to restore. I  picked up a BSA M20 before 2 years and am having a tough but enjoyable time with it.
Please do look at the pics and let me know if I will be able to get forks for this model. The documents of this bike says this is a 1951 model but I am not very sure if his is a Mark 5.

Regards & God Bless
Pratap Henry

Hello,

Below is a link to a picture of a beautifully restored Mark 5 & what the machine should look like.

It may be best to use this picture so you can see what is missing on the one in India.

Good luck.
