Mk 5 exhaust pipe help!
« on: 11 Feb 2023 at 16:25 »
Hi..I want to remove the left exhaust on my bike..after releasing the clamp under the foot rest, does the pipe just pull out of the cylinder head? Also what is the purpose of the tiny clip fitted on the pipe next to the head? ( pic attached )

Thanks!

Normally, the pipes just push into the heads. Even if they have been retained with exhaust cement, they usually come free after being given a good wriggle. Having said that, that clip is not standard, so could be clamping the pipe onto a stub in the head (maybe the pipe is oversize and clamped onto a stub of the original pipe). The diameter of the standard pipe is 1 3/8".

  Hope this helps,
                          Regards,
                                       Eddie.

Although the clip looks bigger in photo its tiny with like a 1/16th dia screw holding it!
Goodness knows why its there as its deff not clamping anything..

Thanks again
