1931 P&H Headlamp - Wiring questions
« on: 22 Jan 2023 at 23:18 »
Question: what/how does the connector to this headlight look like? What the the hole above the threaded portion for? If anyone has
a headlamp like this I'd like to get both exterior and interior photos. Also I'm looking for the reflector and the powell and Hanmer seal that goes on the top. If anyone knows where I could find those let me know. Thanks, Bill

I should add that I'll be mounting this on my 1930 douglas s6.

Bill,

my lamp is a 1930 BTH. It looks very similar. It has also a small hole between big wire hole and switch end.
May be it was used for an extra dip switch wire? There were wires though the hole. I do not know, is it an original hole or an modification.
I do use now only the big hole for the harness. I switch LOW - HIGH with the switch for the 2 lamps.

Thanks. I thought that it would be a bit more than pushing the wires through. Thought there might be something like a bakelite disc
with female connections. Something similar to a model A wiring connector. What I didn't show is that I have a flat plate with pins that fits in the hole.
The wires inside the light connect to the pins.

Bill,

I send an other photo showing the wires before restauration. I think there are some original wires, but also several wires added to the switch. Also the "spare bulb holder" is not original. So on my lamp was not a connector.
I have renewed the wires.

I believe I figure it out but now I need to find or make the main bulb holder. Attached ate a couple pictures of what I'm looking for. The socket I have is just a tad small on OD. Anyone have any ideas on where I can find this part? Oddly enough Harley used a part like this between 1932 and 1938 on the taillight.

My lamp has fitted a BA15 bulb (size also used in some rear lights).
BA15 = 15mm socket dia.
May be your soket is the right size?

Thanks. I'll check out that bulb size when I get to that. I was looking for the thread for r he socket. I think I have that sorted out now as a 3/4-26 BSC.
