Douglas French Barn Find
« on: 29 Aug 2022 at 16:31 »
Hello the forum's members,
I write to you from France.
I have found a frame, tank (and maybe the wheels but !) of Douglas motorcycle.
According the paint of the tank and the pannier rack, may be it's a model R (2 3/4 HP of 1913) !
Is you can help me to identifiy this Douglas parts pleas ?
Thank you,
Regards,
BenFR

Hi Ben
The frame is pre 1914 with correct carrier and the front forks are in the background of the photo. Great find, could you let us know the frame number ? for the club register.
Best wishes

My 1913 frame is severely corroded in the gearbox lug and headstock.  If this frame were available it would sure simplify my restoration
Thanks

Hi Len, Chris,
Thank you for your message.
Yesterday everning, I have search faster the frame but I didn't have found. I will search this evening. Where is normally located the frame number?

The front forks in the background is not for the Douglas but a Motobecane MB1.

In fact my not a specialist of motorcycle. My hobby is the tricylecar and cyclecar like the car you can see during the VRM at Monthlery in France.
I have always liked these old motocycle.
I have get back a lot part of motorcycle.  I sort the part and after I see what I conserve and that I sell.

If I want to rebuild this Douglas, Is it difficult to found the spart parts ? Is it possible to found an engine, front forks...

Thanks,
Ben

Hi Ben
The frame number is stamped just below the rear slot that the rear gearbox fixing stud goes through in the frame. The front forks and engines do come up for sale now and again but will take some searching to find,  now I have downloaded the photo I can see that the forks in the photo are not Douglas forks.
Best wishes
