I am pretty desperate for a rear cylinder for my veteran Douglas 1917 2 3/4hp "W" model.   I there is anyone who may have one of these that can be re-sleeved or know where I may find one I would be very pleased for the help.  I have a number of engine parts that I can exchange such as matching crankcases, conrods, crankshaft, flywheel etc. Any help appreciated.

Does anyone have the specifications for the oil inlet valve spring for early 2 3/4 engines - Part number 424.   I have tried to order one from the club spares but apparently Jeff Swan is indisposed at the moment.

Hi, I used to receive a message via email every time somebody posted on the forum. I don't get them anymore and can't remember how to set it up. Can someone tell me please? Thanks

Dave

Hi Pallijen15,

There are a number of ways to set up notifications, Here is a brief run through of some of the options.

Firstly, check your email address is correctly set in your Profile.
Profile > Modify Profile > Account Settings

Receive notifications to a topic of interest
When viewing the topic, select the 'Notify' button at the top or bottom of the page.
You will be asked if you are sure, select OK to confirm the subscription.

Receive notifications to topics in which you have posted
Profile > Modify Profile > Notifications
Check the box next to:  Turn notification on when you post or reply to a topic.
Choose the other options to suit your preferences.

Or...
When posting a reply, expand 'Attachments and other options' at the bottom, check the 'Notify me of replies' box.

Receive notifications of new posts in a whole forum
At the forum index page (where all the topics are listed), click on the 'Notify' button in the top right hand area.

However..
The sending of notifications by email is also affected by the server, which can queue emails and delay sending them for quite long periods. This queuing mechanism seems to be controlled by the web host and I haven't been able to find anyway of circumventing these controls. Sometimes notifications never arrive at all. Personally, I don't find email notifications to be 100% reliable.

Using 'All Unread' emails to monitor new forum posts
This method leaves out the email bit and in my experience, it seems to be 100% effective. I use it as a double-check tool.

After turning on all the notifications I want to receive, I also visit All Unread Topics several times each day.

Set up an Unread topics bookmark
Visit this link and then bookmark it - https://www.douglasmotorcycles.net/index.php?action=unread;all;start=0
On your first visit, there will be hundreds of unread topics.
Click on the 'New' button to read the latest unread post in a topic.
Or click on the topic title to start at the beginning of the topic.
Visit any you wish, then click on "MARK ALL MESSAGES AS READ".
Now only unread posts from this point forward will show up.

This is a good back up system (in addition to your notifications) to make sure you don't miss any interesting posts.

Thanks Dave, I have now set it to where the headings on the right say NEW TOPIC - NEW POLL - UNNOTIFY -  MARK READ. Email is correct for my account. I'll see if it works now.  Thanks
