Douglas 80 Plus paint
« on: 01 Jun 2022 at 05:17 »
Hi,

restoring an 80 Plus model I find different pictures of it.

The coulour is indeed maroon and chrome or (later) silver on the petrol tank. But the pin stripe on the tank are different, some have black and some have gold stripes. Is black stripes what the factory did?

Has someone informations?

Michael

A Silver coloured stripe was used instead of chrome for one year only I believe, your bike looks to be in original condition paint so I'd copy the colour scheme as it is as that will be how it left the factory.

Hi Doodle,

my bike has no original paint anymore. It is repainted in a darker red than maroon (may be Ral 3007).
There is no chrome under the paint on the tank. I think there was a stop or shortage of chrome on several bikes in UK in 1951 and 1952.
