Can anyone help with the following enquiry the club has received:-
Could you help identify a wheel I believe is a 1924 rear but now have my doubts? I have photos to better explain but it is essentially a 21"x1.6" 40 spoke half hub with a 5 1/2" drum brake and x4 pattern spokes. Photos attached.
Thanks, Roy

If it's 1924, then it isn't Douglas. The first Douglas drum brakes were on the 1926 EW (with the spokes laced into the back of the brake drum - caused problems when the spokes broke and dropped into the 'drum!).
Regards,
Eddie.
P.S. I would also guess that the wheel has been incorrectly spoked - X3 is the usual pattern - maybe the builder was just using up some available spokes!!

I think that could be from an Ariel Colt? I have used the drum from one of these to repair/remake a 40T rear drum/sprocket for a New Imperial, which also used 5 1/2" drums. The earlier ones are a one-piece casting, and I think the later ones are pressed up.
Cheers for now

That has no provision for a sprocket attachment, so it has to be a front wheel.
It also has ball bearings, not tapered rollers, so not Douglas EW or similar ?
Thats the chap on ebay.
Someone may have pointed out that that can't be Douglas
