Douglas project
« on: 20 Jan 2021 at 10:34 »
Dear All

What do you thing about this Douglas project ? In description is that it is 1913 year. Based on photos front forks , rear carrier , saddle fitted to the frame looks like early 20s (maby model TS) . I will be grateful for your opinions.  I'm looking for WWI Douglas project so this is the reason why I'm asking about it.

Yes, it's wrong to advertise a bike as "1913" when nothing about it looks anything other than 1920s. "Selling on behalf of a friend" is a pretty tired excuse.

Cheers

Artur,

A guide to the frame/engine/gearbox numbering can be found here:

Nice one Daren. I think a couple of years post-1913: an obvious pre/post 1914 difference is the rear stand pivot, and in the wartime photo the stand pivot is below the rear axle, suggesting 1915-on. 1914 and before the pivot is actually in the chain-stay tube.

Here in Australia we use Dec 31, 1918 at the veteran cutoff date, so we don't worry so much about the 1914/15 differences. More important in the UK!

Cheers

Leon

Isn't the year of the engine of those models stamped rather prominently onto the timing cover  ?
Or does that not apply in the teens ?
