More Help Please.
« on: 10 Nov 2020 at 18:57 »
Hi
Back again with some more electrical questions. My problem this time is in relation the horn, there are three wires coming from the harness but only two terminals on the horn. I have identified the three wires as one direct live from the battery, one that is a connection to the ammeter and the third is a wire coming in from the horn push switch, so my question is  how do i connect the three wires from the harness to the two terminals on the horn.

Regards Kevin..

Hi Kevin
According to the wiring diagram, the feed for the horn comes from the ammeter and the second wire goes to the horn button. I'm not sure where the horn is located on a Dragonfly, I've an 80 Plus, but is it anywhere near the rear brake lever as the wire from the battery could be the feed to a brake light switch?

The feed from the ammeter to the horn likely comes directly from the battery side
- horns can have a very big initial current draw, and this can be death to an ammeter.

Power is thus often supplied directly to the horn from the battery, so they are live all the time.
And the horn button just completes the circuit to earth.
Hopethishelps.

On most British systems of the era both the stop light and the horn are fed from the battery the ammeter is after all there to show the supply status during normal running

Following on from my previous massage, the wire from the ammeter to the horn comes from the battery supply side so does not register a discharge when used.
