Question about Dual Seat

The seat in the photos was on my Douglas 80 Plus when I bought it.

I now have a single saddle fitted and I'm looking to sell the dual seat.

I have been informed that this is, probably, not an original Douglas seat.

Can anyone shed any more light on this?

Looks like it may have started life on a plunger frame BSA A7/A10/B31/B33. Later swinging arm frame models had a similar seat, but with a broader nose.

It would have been nice if it was a Douglas seat but I'll feel less attachment when it goes!

Prior to the introduction of the Dragonfly, I think the only dualseat Douglas offered was the Feridax dualseat for use on the Plus machines - a single seat and separate pillion seat were the only ones listed for the Mark series machines - dualseats were usually owner-fitted, and the preference seemed to be the BSA style seat.

I bought a Douglas because my father had them in the 50's.

Amongst the many photos I have of his bikes, there is one with the engine out but showing that he had a dual seat fitted.

It's an unusual looking seat and not one that I would wish to replicate!

Hi Keith,
               That looks very much like a Feridax seat. They had a plywood base, so most have now rotted to the point of being unusable!

I found another photo of the same bike which looks like it has a single saddle and separate pillion. As this was my mother and father's only means of transport at the time, I'm sure my mum would have had some say in what seat was on the bike.

This is the dual seat which was on my 80 Plus when it was taken off the road in 1959. It's a Lycett, which I have had recovered.

A tribute to Ralph who had it for nearly 60 years in bits, buying new parts etc along the way and when I bought it from him it was 96% complete!
