Ew Tank Paint Scheme
« on: 16 Jun 2020 at 07:02 »
Hello

The tank on my EW has been painted in a style I haven't seen on any other EW. Is this period correct or did the previous owner use a bit of artistic licence?

Did all EW's use inverted levers or has this been modified also?

Thanks

Hi Shaneb,
The fuel tank has two blue panels either side with a blue pinstripe outside. A search on this site will illustrate the design. The bars are 1" and are brazed to the fork crown and have inverted levers. I suspect it will be difficult to source. I used some inch bars from an early Triumph which were roughly the right shape. I cut, slugged and pinned then plated. If you search this site you will find loads of useful info on the EW.
Hope that helps
Andy

Also, all the original plated finish on an EW would have been nickel,
chrome hadn't been invented yet.

(Well, it had been, just, but hadn't made its way onto motorcycles yet.).
(Thats almost the de facto standard for vintage, versus chrome on post-vintage)
Almost ...

Thats a lovely example of an EW you have there Arturro.
Can you ride it ?
I love the photo of the headstock Douglas decal, thanks for that.

It also looks as if Shane's tank may be a repro tank (slightly smaller - a lot of clearance under the frame top tube!).

HI EW Ron
Bike not running at the moment. Now other project in my hands. I want to keep bike in unrestored condition and of course I want to start and ride them.

Please look at the rear mudguard transfer with Douglas Man . It also original .
On front chain cover has Douglas logo too ( unfortunately in poor conditions )

Stay safe
Artur

Thanks for everyone's input.

It seems my handle bar set up is from something other than a Douglas. I need to work out what is right and wrong on this bike to get it to it be the bike it should be. I have a bigger project on my hands than I anticipated.

Ill be up in the shed over the weekend with pictures of Arturro's beautiful bike and comparing. I suggest a long to do list will eventuate.

Thanks again
