Mark 5 petrol taps
« on: 30 May 2020 at 19:09 »
Hello
I am looking to replace the original taps on my mark v

Any recommendations? I am not sure what the tank thread is.

Canít seem to stop the off drip when closed. Changed to rubber kit from cork.

So thought see if a good replacement at a reasonable price.

Thank you in advance
Doug

The tank thread is 1/4BSP (British Standard Pipe thread).

If you are having problems with re-corked taps still leaking, check out the corks carefully - some are made from poor quality cork, and others have the hole off centre.

  Regards,
                 Eddie.

Boiling up the corks for a while will often improve them,
if they are not actually broken or crumbling.

Make some. Snag is you need to make a whisky cork available!

Hi Doug, I had problems with new taps I fitted to my MkV. The lever type where the lever travels from horizontal to vertical, quarter of a turn. If you are using this type of tap and it has a locknut to lock tap in position when fitted PTFE tape must be used as it leaks down the thread.
