T35 chain alignment
« on: 02 Oct 2019 at 16:16 »
I have the engine / gearbox unit back in the frame and also the respoked rear wheel.

At a testing I find the line of gearbox sprocket and rear chainwheel (on the brake drum  of the wheel) around 12mm out of line!

I can not find a sign of reason; the frame looks very solid and straight, the rear wheel fits perfect in the fork.

I think there was not a special (off set) sprocket for the comp model?

I hope anyone can help with an idea.

Michael

Michael,
Unlike the standard road models, the Comp and the Plus models both had rear brake drums with bolt on sprockets. There is a difference between the drums used on the Plus and the Comp - the Comp has the flange for the sprocket closer to the outside of the drum, so that the chain will clear the wider trials tyre. From memory, the difference is about 6.5mm (I used a Plus drum for a while until the correct drum became available).

  Regards,
                 Eddie.

Hi Eddie,

thanks for your reply.
I will check the flange of the drum.
I have also noticed the space betweenengine / frame bolt, because I have not fitted the sump plate now. There is also a reason for not correct line up with the rear wheel sprocket.

By the way: Is the sump guard only fitted at the engine bolt?
There are also 2 holes on the plate front top right and left.

Hello Michael,
The sump guard originally fitted on the main engine bolt and on to 2 small plate lugs on the front down tubes. These 2 lugs were only about 3mm thick and often got broken off when the sump guard was put to the test. When I made the sump guard for my Comp, I made it a neat fit to the frame tubes and just used 2 'P' clips to attach it to the down tubes.

  Regards,
               Eddie.
