Aero 600 Amal carb float bowl part number required

I have an issue with the carb leaking on my Aero, even though the float valve is sealing well. I think its due to the float bowl not being the correct one for the carb, hence the fuel level sits slightly above the top of the needle jet. There are ways to cure this but I would like to know what the correct float bowl should be. The carb is an Amal 4/027 & the float bowl fitted at the moment is 22/023

Excuse my ignorance, but what year is the bike? Attached below are some Amal details for 1930, 1933 and 1936 Douglases.

22/023 is the part number for a 1930 tickler?

thanks for the reply. The bike is 1936. Thats odd about the float chamber number. I'll have another look asap
Edit: Looks like an 8 at the end, not a 3, so its 22/028 which makes more sense, although still the wrong one

So for 1936, the carb should be a 74/027, which is probably identical to a 4/027 except alloy rather than brass.

The part number for the correct complete float chamber is 62/079. This is the "standard" "small float chamber" "bottom feed".

The bare fuel bowl for the 62/079 is the 62/025s, but I guess you have the 22/028s which is the same bowl, but top feed. Drawing attached.

What you have is pretty close to the correct hardware, so just some adjustment of the fuel level?

Thats good information Leon, thankyou for taking time to research.
Now I know its something close I'll get on with sorting it.
I did try moving the float down slightly, which cured the dribbling, but at the same time made it impossible to "tickle", as the tickler plunger then didn't contact the float.
I should be able to build up some solder on the end of the plunger though which should sort that out

Can you not lower the float chamber a little by fitting 2 washers between the bottom nut and the float chamber?

Couldn't lower it much as there wasn't much thread to play with. Checked the float needle & it was a little on the short side. Fitted a new needle today & had a ride out to Ironbridge to test. All is well

My son is just finishing off the restoration of a 500cc Aero. The carb is the same as the one fitted to your bike and the float chamber is the same 22/028 and like your carb it is leaking fuel. Did the new float needle cure the problem and if so can you tell me the part number of the float needle you ordered and when got it from. Thanks

Hi Roy, the new needle did indeed cure the leak. It was part number 22/014 & I got it from a seller thats not advertising at the moment, but Villiersparts stock them;
