Primary Chainguard 350cc Douglas
« on: 14 Apr 2018 at 16:23 »
At end of last year I had bought a 350cc Douglas 1930 H3, nearly complete, but main parts of the engine missing.
The engine had in the 1950ies a broken crankshaft, was dismantled and most engine parts getting lost.
I had the luck to buy a ER stamped engine (right for the model!) at Ebay, but this engine is in a bad state and several parts are worn.

The engine is now completed again, but I wonder about fitting the primary chainguard (it is still on the frame) fitting to the engine.
There was a bracket in one of the boxes (could be fixed to the crankcase?) and a half circle tin (front for the chainguard?).

On the engine is one of the 4 crankcase bolts (srewing together the 2 cases) longer, with also a longer nut on. The other 3 nuts are of normal size, so it do not work. Is there a second long nut necessary to fix the bracket? Ar all in an other way?
Unfortunately there is not pictured parts book available for the model.

I hope someone can help me with photo or explanation how is it right for the bike.

Hi,

I have tried to add more photos to exlain the problem, but it is allways "ERROR".

I hope someone can help without further photos.

You see the "long"nut on top right hand of the crankcase. There is some thread I could use to fix the bracket for the primary chainguard? (putting on the crankcase)?

So I will need also a long nut on the crankcase bolt bottom right?

I hope my exlainations are good enough to understand.

Michael
