Hi, it is better to make a new cam support plate that has 4 mounting points. The 3 point plates have been known to move and break off the centre mounting stud. They are simple to make, copy the shape of the existing plate then fill in a section for the last mounting point, making sure to clear the oil pump. If you have an old ventilation disc, they can also be copied by someone with a lathe.

When fitting the support plate be careful that the bolts/nuts are correctly tightened beneath the support first and shim the plate so it fits flat. If everything is not flat, you can crack the timing/ intake cover very easily.

The secret with the S/T6 engine is to fit it in the frame (along with the primary chaincase) and tighten the through studs from the left hand side, so that the cam followers, the crankcase halves and the primary chaincase are firmly clamped together. Then fit the timing cover with the nuts just nipped up enough to prevent oil leakage.  This will prevent undue strain and cracks in the timing cover. Without adhering to this sequence, the whole assembly will appear to be tight, but the cam followers could be floating loose on the through bolts.

  Regards,
                 Eddie.
