Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

Found a very interesting photo of a 1923 S1 on this web site:-  www.gracesguide.co.uk  on the motorcycles-Douglas section

This one, presumably. Some interesting work with the carburettors.

That's the one.  It looks to be a fancy guard protecting the carbs. What is puzzling is all that conglomeration on top of the the timing cover. There's cables all over the place-possibly some control to an oil pump.

Yes I think I can spot a mechanical oil pump on the outside of the timing chest. Perhaps there is something wrapped around the magneto to keep it dry? Sure looks messy!
