1924 4hp SV

Hi all,

Just wondering if anyone has some information on the 1924 4hp SV I recently found in the Barossa region of South Australia. Looks like Gard Brothers were the Adelaide based Douglas agents back in the day so it hasn't travelled far in its 93 years.
From a quick Google search, there doesn't seem to be many of this model in existence? I found a couple of images of earlier 600 SV's but nothing mid 20's.
Just wondering if the wheels were the same as a TS or were they more heavy duty?
Also, would be interested to hear from anyone that may be able to help with the missing parts.

I reckon you've turned up with a very rare model indeed - my understanding was that the 4hp model stopped being produced in 1923, so this is presumably a "leftover" with an updated year on the timing cover. There are a couple of late model 4hps in Australia that I know of, Wilf Rath from Canberra has a 1923 model, and the now sadly late John Humberstone of Victor Harbour had a similar model with Gard Bros on the tank like yours - pictures of these machines can be found on the forum. Good luck with the restoration - from your pictures, I would think perhaps the hardest part to find may be the gearbox and clutch, but I'm sure if you put the word out something will turn up. In fact, I think that Stephen Sellar in Sydney may have made a clutch complete, so he would have the dimensions programmed for the CNC to make another if he did.

That would explain why I'm unable to find any info on my 1924 model. The patina is too good on this one so my plan is to piece it back together and get it running in its current condition. The Engine still turns over freely and has compression and the Tank looks perfect inside. I have the missing front end parts, handlebars, levers but I am looking for Wheels (same as TS) and a Gearbox. A Gearbox Shell would do as Alan C has spare internals from a S1 box that are identical.
