7/32-33 and 3/16-27 taps
« on: 31 May 2017 at 03:39 »
For sale, 3/16-27, 7/32-33, 17/64-25, and 5/16-25 hand plug taps.

3/16-27

7/32-33

17/64-25

5/16-25

These are propitiatory sizes used by Douglas. The 3/16-27 for smaller screws and studs like the timing chest cover and gear case covers. The 7/32-33 was used for the tappet screw adjuster on various prewar OHV models and some oil gallery plugs. The 17/64-25 was frequently used in place of 1/4 hardware so that owners had to return to Douglas for their spares! The 5/16-25 is frequently found wherever Douglas needed a 5/16 fine thread.

New manufacture, custom made in USA. High Speed Steel with TiN coating. I use these in the manufacture of my own limited production of Douglas spares and have been very happy with the quality. I had a dozen each made to keep the price realistic, and am selling off some of the extras surplus to requirements.

$40 each, postage extra.

Darren,

Yes I have the 3/16-27, 5/16-25, and the rarely encountered 7/32-33 taps still in stock. I have not had the dies made as external threads I usually cut on a lathe, but the next time I reordered taps I was going to make inquiries to the firm about having dies made. But I predict at 2-3x the cost of the tap that they would be too expensive to sell.

Last time I shipped a tap to AU at the beginning of the year, postage to AU was about  $12US.

Were these in use as early as 1915-1923?
