Hi all,
Did you know that it is now 98 years since production of the Douglas marque of motorcycles began? Production by the company of Douglas Motorcycles Limited began in Bristol, UK, in 1907.

This means that the Centennial Year of the Douglas will occur during 2007. By coincidence, it is also the 50th year since production of Douglas motorcycles ceased.

We believe it is cause for celebration and are hoping that many Douglas enthusiasts in Australia and New Zealand and in other countries around the world will agree with us.

What do you think about organising a Douglas rally to celebrate the anniversary? For starters let's dub it say the Australian Douglas Centenary Rally. Ian and I have tossed it around a bit and our preliminary thoughts are perhaps to organise a 4-day rally for Douglas machines only to be held somewhere in the Southern Highlands region of NSW, sometime during the first half of 2007.

Let us know what you think by posting your comments and ideas here.

Consider and tell us if such a rally was organised whether you would participate and support it, how might it be financed, what events might be organised, would you help in organising or the running of such a rally, if so, in what capacity could you help? - and tell us about any other ideas you may have.

Maybe you would like to make a more formal and private response. If so you may do so by sending an e-mail to adcr@douglasmotorcycles.net or by writing to ADCR c/- PO Box 234 Victor Harbor South Australia 5211.

Folks, what we really need to know at this stage is if there is a level of interest out there for a rally. If you think you may be interested please let us know as soon as possible.

Over the next little while I will be posting information on some of the interesting things we could do in the planned area so you can comment.

Just for the record I will be attending on my OC600 and my wife will ride the TS (if I can convince her it is safe by then) so we have at least 3 so far !!

You can add 6 Douglas (well, 5 plus a Fairy) machines from the Gullick stable. Several riders will be recruited!

G'day all
What a splendid idea!
I may well have a Douglas ready and would love to attend.
I am sure the new committee would have more than the necessary experience to pull such a rally together.
Suggest an invitation be sent off to the members of the London Douglas Club ASAP together with a notice in the likes of "Just Bikes" and "Motorcycle Trader" plus a letter to all the clubs throughout Australia & NZ.
Howard.

Thanks for the ideas Howard. Keep an eye on the NCR. Have you or anyone else reading this got a complete d-base of "all the clubs throughout Australia & NZ" that we could have access to?

All/any ideas invited.

Alwyn, maybe we can start with the list at the back of Just Bikes ? We probably need to firm up the date first though - lets discuss in SA when we get together

Would someone please make enquiries regarding the red tape etc that visitors to Australia would face if they brought their Duggies from home?

Hi John,
I have instigated an enquiry to establish what statutory requirements may have to be met and what consents, permits, etc., may be needed and what, if any, fees or charges may be involved. I will publish a reponse as soon as the information is to hand.

Thanks Alwyn.

Please count me in as interested at this stage although there are some health issues that need to be resolved and of course I need to get this *&^%(* Douglas thing to run yet!

It will be a long haul from the east coast of the USA, but I will endeavor, or is it Endeavour, to make it.  Sans Douglas, as I expect it will be far to much trouble and expense to ship one down under.  Hopefull things will correlate with whatever the LDMCC decide to do for a centenary in the UK, so as to hit that either comming or going.

To Doug and any other like-minded globe trotters, the ADCR OC is concious of the need for celebrations in Oz and the UK to be separated in time - comments about the optimum separation whether it be three or four days or one or two weeks between events and whether the OZ event should precede or follow that in the UK will be appreciated. We will be liaising with the LDMCC in respect of this matter.

Would love to be there. I've only ever seen one Douglas in the flesh , and would be absolutely stoked to hear one, especially an  early 350 ( circa 1915 )
