Have you tried the new Drafts feature yet? I just lost a long message today and learned my lesson. It is a good idea to save a draft of any long post you are writing. You can then just keep writing and keep saving a draft, knowing you have a backup if there is a glitch. The draft is automatically deleted when you post the message.

  need some advice  1926 EW

the oil pump worn nut...what holds it on??  or better,  what keeps it from unscrewing??
does it need a sheet metal tab washer ??

looks like it should be a left hand thread

I have made a new oil pump worm...the original was just a rusty lump..

Doug

The worm/nut threads on. It ought to be a LH thread to be 'self-tightening', but it is in fact RH.

The parts list calls out a lock washer (#9120) but they do not say what type it is. My EW came in a bits from many sources, so I do not know that I have one of those, but a tab washer would make the most sense.

There are two types of worm and worm gear. A fine pitch initially used that was prone to stripping the teeth, and a later, coarser pitch.

thanks heaps for the reply....  my original had one side ground off ...I assumed for a tab washer... I,ll make one of those...
my worm was just a rusty lump...  I made new,  with a 10 pitch...worked out well  I then cut a 24 tooth pinion to mesh...that worked terrible..
then made another worm the same  a 10 pitch...out of 4130 and used that to cut a helical gear...  that 10 pitch worm cut a nice helical gear ...with 26 teeth...it works real smoooooth

I couldn't get my setup rigid enough ..so could only cut a bronze gear...after the aluminium prototypes

now just need to know how to time these cams
