2 3/4hp timing chest removal procedure?
« on: 19 Aug 2016 at 08:58 »
Hi again,
Further to my last question with regard to the advance retard lever on my 1924 2 3/4hp TS I think I'd like to try to retime the magneto (EIC). This will involve removing the main engine timing cover behind the carburettor to get access to the magneto drive sprocket.

Can anyone confirm that this can be done with the engine in situ and is it just a matter of removing the slot headed screws, or do the two hex head bolts also need to be removed?

Thanks again everyone.
Richard

Yes it's a fiddly job on a TS, but it is done with the engine in situ. I take the carb and manifold off to do the job.

Thanks again Leon,
I've just removed it, it's pretty straightforward. I just unbolted the carburettor from the manifold and disconnected the fuel pipe at the tank end whilst leaving the manifold in place. Removing the eight slot headed screws and the single bolt and the cover came away and slid out easily from behind the inlet manifold tubes.
