Regarding the common type of route roller as sold by Classic Bike mags.  I have bought a replacement polythene enclosure, how do I dismantle the roller without Mhullering it?

Threw that away first time, to short for a good run anyway. Luckily I get my route before the event far better to laminate your route with fablon clear or similar and stick it on with tape

Les,
I don't know if they are still of the same design, but my 20 year old version has ribs formed inside the end fittings and shallow grooves around the ends of the rollers to keep the ends in place. With the roller moderately warm, the ends can be prised off without doing any damage.

I have tried a couple from the VMCC. Seem OK on a low powered bike. However, the first one broke its handlebar clips when I tried to move it from one bike to another. The second blew itself apart when riding at 70mph up the motorway into a 30 mph headwind on my Norton - not likely to be a problem on my 2 3/4 HP Douglas! I currently use a cheap clear plastic map case with directions inside. I just twizzle it round to read the next page so you only have to stop after 2 sheets of A4 directions.
