douglas heat shields

i am trying to work out what douglas these heat sheilds are off
they are abot 8 inches long are double skinned and have the word douglas cut out of them with a black background the have brass dome nuts holding then together could they be pillion shields off some model

Hi Trevor,
I have looked through a few books looking for shields of the type you have. This is a scan of a shield fitted to a 1948 MkIII Sports - it appears plain without lettering.


and here is another fitted to a 1951 350cc Competition model - it has slots similar to those Doug mentioned HERE



I could not find any similar to those you have and as Doug suggests yours may be an 'aftermarket item'.

I suggest too that if Douglas had made them as an OEM item they would most likely have adopted a font the same as was indented to rocker covers c 1948 and also adopted for signwriting the name on petrol tanks. Further, I believe it would also have had the customary full-stop following the name which is so often conspicuous only by its absence in repaints and restorations seen today.

the only thing i can think of is after market for the pillion rider on a sports and i think we need to have a topic about the dot after douglas or is this a confirmed fact

finally found out these heat sheilds fit mark 5 with the low exhausts
the sheild is just to protect your foot if it slips on to the pipe
