Finally back on the dragonfly

After having been working out of the country for sometime I finally was presented with a target for getting the Dragonfly running nicely, that was the Goodwood revival (see attached picture). I have completely rewired the bike which has made a huge difference to reliability. I have a few questions however due to lack of time/experience:

1) Can anyone recommend a specialist for a light engine overhaul? I have clutch slip and the desperate need of some new gaskets to stem the flow of oil slightly!
2) I would like to get my wheels reconditioned but have seen all kinds of finishes. The spokes on mine look like they were painted silver with silver/black/gold dishes to the wheels. Where could I find out what they should be?
3) Does anyone have a recommendation for modern tyres that look sympathetic on these bikes? The available "grip" level is eye watering!

Hi there,

I'm pretty new to Douglas motorcycles myself, but I found a clip on youtube of someone having rebuilt a Dragonfly and I think it's this company here http://www.classicsuperbikes.co.uk/ but they don't look cheap. I'm sure you know you can get gaskets and probably a new clutch from the club, and having removed my engine and gearbox and split them myself recently, it's really not that hard. There's also a post on here somewhere where I think it was Eddie recommends filling the bellhousing with petrol to clean the clutch disc.

On the wheel front I *think* I read or had a conversation whereby both your style wheels and plain silver were either an option or an age variance, but don't quote me on that. My Dragonfly (also in black/silver) just has plain silver wheels.

For tyres, sometime just buying new tyres in the same style can help if your original tyres are looking as old as the bike. http://www.vintagetyres.com/ have a good reputation amongst classic car owners so it may be work just giving them a call and having a chat.

I haven't actually ordered anything yet, but there's always something in the club magazine about how to order. If you didn't know, I think they only sell to members but joining the club does seem to be worth it, if you're not a member.
