oil level / spark plug
« on: 28 Apr 2015 at 21:03 »
Hello everyone!

I have a 1933 Douglas S6  and I have two questions for you :

- I would like to know how to check the oil level, there is no dipstick. Do you have an idea? Have you had the same problem?

- What kind of spark plug should I use for my S6?

Thank you very much

Phil

Hello Phil,

You fill the sump up to a level just below the threads of the filler neck. This allows a little room for expansion. The sump is separate from the crankcase so you really cannot over fill it, other than it overflowing. It will not flood the engine.

There are a number of folk running S6 and derivatives that should be able to advise on a modern spark plug heat range.

NGK A7 plugs work well in the S6

I believe that the original recommended spark plug for the S6 was Lodge H1. I have seen these occasionally on ebay but at very high prices. You are almost certainly better off with modern NGK plugs. Chris.

Let me first say that I have always prefered NGK plugs but recently I have started to hear bad reports it is said that they have changed to non glazed insulators which make them sensitive to non computer machines some even say Champions are now better....
