MK V Cylinder head studs

Hi,just bought myself a 1951 MK V. the bike all looks good apart from the LH cylinder is smoking badly and chucking out oil. The valves and guides appear to have been done (the previous owner did not tell me this !) and the rings have been changed. the only thing i can see that is obviously wrong is the threads on two of the studs have been damaged, so i think this will make it difficult to clamp down the head properly.
Any thoughts/ theories on the subject would be greatly appreciated. Also if anyone has any spare studs for sale that would be great. Checked with the owners club and they are out of stock at the mo. They are 3/8" BSF and 1- 11/16" long.
 Any help and advice on common problems on this model would be greatly appreciated as i am keen to get back on the road.
