My Dad's old Douglas
« on: 14 Sep 2013 at 15:55 »
Hi,
My Dad Jack bought the Douglas in the early 1950's. It was his first 'new' bike after the war. He didn't have it by 1954 when he did the Scots-6day on his Norton 500. I only have the registration number (see photo). The picture was taken on Barton Bridge near Manchester. If anybody knows anything about this bike then please let me know.

Cheers

This is a near new Mk 4 sports model with the swept up exhaust pipes at rear. The front mudguard bracket is also different to the later Mk 5 models.  Club stalwart Ron Proudfoot used to own a similar polychomatic blue machine, I think the only machine I can remember seeing with such pipes. I wonder how many Mk 4 Sports were made, did they have similar sports cams as fitted to the Mk 3 sports or did they have standard cams and the engines that performed better on the bench go into the Mk 4 Sports, any ideas

a great photo

Thanks Steve, it's sounding like it was a MK IV Sports in Blue. I'm not sure if the rear seat was an extra?
