Hi all,

this is the thread of my T6 - 1931 crankshaft timing side.

What did it for a function?
What is being screwed?
It is apparently not so important because the bike was so driven.

Manfred,

There would have been a nut to retain the timing pinion gear. It would seem someone has center-punched the journal for the timing pinion to make it a tight fit and dispensed with the nut. It is a very poor engineering solution.

Ah, there is a cotter CASTLE NUT with it.
Yes, it's botched, but unfortunately not the only one.

Doug has answered your question, I am curious how the engine ran without the locking nut!
The Douglas Club does have copies of both the original manual and the parts list for the S6 models, they cover T6 ,S6, S5, C31, D31 and E31. Sadly a few of the pictures have suffered from early photographic techniques but they do show all the componants.
Except of course your missing nut! it is listed in the part numbers as 11163. It would have cost you the princely sum of 3 old pence! in 1931.
Should you not already have copies, the club sells them for £7-00 each plus postage. As treasurer of the Club I am quite happy to send you one or both and collect your money! :lol: :roll:

OK, if the lads have it hand no problem, they should be with you in a few days, The prewar spares handle incoming orders in turn so it may be a week or so depending how much work they have on.

Its probably better to to sort the books out between yourselves, I'm guessing Kevin may be out of stock as he only had a limited supply. I know the available club spares list was sent out in the reply email.  Manfred's email went to the correct email address and not the one stated in the posting.
