Can I drop the oil pump out to clean the filter and refit without creating any problems.
Regards Keith.

Hi Keith,

"Can I drop the oil pump out to clean the filter and refit without creating any problems."

Yes you can take the oil pump out to clean the filter & the pump.  Be careful with the fine filter (am sure you would be).

Am afraid I cannot give you advise on this one - will admit I got my other half to do this (he was a newbie to Douglas & had no trouble at all).  Although I do the oil change myself.

Good luck.  Dawn.

Hi Keith
Undone the 3 nuts off the studs.
There is a plate with a paper gasket then the pump body and  a cork gasket between the crank case.
Give the wire mesh filter a wash in petrol and its good to go.
The pump is driven off the cam shaft, it needs no timing just put it back with new gaskets.
Regards
Kevin

Hope the warnings not too late!! I assume you have already drained the oil otherwise you will get rather a messy shock.
The advice from Dawn and Kevin is quite correct, however both the thin paper and the cork gasket should be replaced or you will find an annoying oil smudge around the pump area until you do renew them.
Have fun
Dave
