Mark IV models, final drive
« on: 16 Aug 2011 at 16:58 »
Doug.
Do you know why some Mark IV models had the chain drive on the nearside and some on the offside?

Mick,

All Mark IVs (and all Mark series and Dragonfly) have the final drive on the left-hand side. I suspect you have seen a picture or image that was inadvertently reversed.

  Thanks Doug.
I thought it very strange. I saw the photograph in Members Gallery  submitted by Dave in June 2009 from Australia of his Mark IV Sports.

Mick,

Yes, the image is reversed. Not much to go by except for an oblique view of the backwards "L" plate. I'll go and flip the image the correct way now. Oddly, all the Douglas experts that visit this site and no one else has commented on it!

Perhaps I should instead just caption it as the rare export model for driving on the right-hand side of the road?   :)

Except that we drive on the left (actually the "right") side of the road in Australia!

Yes Doug.

When I  went back to look at the photograph the only clue I saw was the "L" plate at the rear was obviously a reverse picture

Thanks Doug.

I see you have now changed the drive side - very quick engineering solution. Cheers Mick
