SW.5 Rear sproket
« on: 25 Oct 2010 at 10:59 »
Hello all. My SW5 has a rear sprocket that is not drilled with lightening holes, it is a 59 tooth one.  anyone know for certain whether this size was normally drilled or do I have a sprocket from some other Douglas model. Thanks BARRYM.

Barry,

The SW5/6 was the only model cataloged showing lightning holes drilled in the rear sprocket, when that sprocket was over a brake drum. All the other road models had sprockets too close to the drum size to permit any sort of practical lightening hole. The TT/I.o.M. was an exception, but it had lightening slots and a detachable sprocket.

Not sure of the tooth count off hand.

Doug thank you. I will do a bit more investigating and may set it up and drill it if as you say lightening holes were normal for this model. BARRYM.
