E28 kickstart spring

A quick question re kick start springs - by E28 has a flat metal spring for the kickstart return - it does not seem to be strong enough as the weight of the kickstarter overcomes it - without the actual kickstart level attached it all works fine. Is this the correct type of spring for these ? If so I guess its probably just worn out. There isn't enough slack in the spring to do another 360 degree turn.

Ian,
Do you have the spring anchored on the correct stud? It is the one immediately above the kick start shaft; not the through bolt below and to the rear. That would give it another 90 degrees tension.
