What font is "Douglas"
« on: 17 Sep 2010 at 05:04 »
Can anyone tell me what font the word "Douglas" is on the petrol tank.
I wish to do a number plate with the year, model and Douglas. on it and would like all the words to match.

Jonathan. The only thing to try probably is to consider the first time at which Douglas first used their familiar script and search accordingly, though of course they may have used one from an earlier era. I had a go at "Googleing" it and there is plenty of sites to search. BARRYM

It is no known font. No doubt the Douglas advertising department came up with it, and Douglas subsequently registered it as a trademark #422316 in 1922. There is what looks to be a very similar version used on petrol tanks from 1913 to 1921, where the 'a' and the 'g' are closed up.
