T6/S6 main bearing
« on: 18 Jul 2009 at 16:18 »
Hi All

I have just pulled my 2 T6/S6 engines apart, they both have different main roller bearings.

They both are 30x 62x 20 but one is double row deep groove and
The other is self aligning ball bearings.

So both have been changed from original because they should be 21mm width
which are not available now.

What one should I use?

Regards
Kevin

Kevin,

According to an SKF spec sheet for Douglas engines, the T6/S5/S6 were fitted with SKF 2206, a 30x62x20mm double row self-aligning ball bearing on the drive side, with a 1mm washer. There is a footnote on the list that this supersedes SKF W5974, a 30x62x21 unit. The newest Douglas model on the list is 1931, so the assumption is the list dates from 1931-32.

Recommendation is to use a 30x62x20mm double row self-aligning roller bearing unit, which are readily available.
