Picture of 1930 Advance retard leaver
« on: 16 Jul 2009 at 15:53 »
Hi there,

Does anyone have a picture of what the Advance retard lever should look like for a 1930 G31? Is the make of this leaver a Bowden?

Br

Alex

Hi Alex
I have attached a few pictures of the lever on my 1930 600cc S6 model, As far as I'm aware the lever is the original for my machine, just been re-plated. I would guess your machine would have the same.
Hope this helps.
Regards      Martin

Hi all,

As I suspect that my Douglas has the incorrect leavers I took a gamble and bought a Bowden leaver off eBay. Its not quite the same as the one in the pictures but I thinks its from around the correct time period.

Here are some pics of it.

Regards

Alex

2 days and counting till my Douglas arrives....

Indeed Martin's bike has the correct lever - same as on my S5, which is very original, being absolutely complete when restored.

Hi there,

So the Picture of Martins leaver is for the Advance/ retard but is the one for the choke a mirror of this one, eg the same type handed as the one I have.

At the moment my choke leaver is a Amal one, so at least it will soon have the correct make, that is of they used Bowden on the choke as well???

Regards

Alex

Hi Alex
If you have the correct carburettor for your S6, the choke lever should be on the carburettor itself, operating a butterfly in the bell mouth.

Sorry Alex - I obviously didn't read your posts well enough, and with the talk of levers from an S6, I mistakenly thought you had an S6 too. I feel like a fool!
No, the G31 is not like an S6, and I presume that the carburettor is more conventional than that fitted to the S6 - so I would think  you should have a choke lever on the handlebar. I don't know if the lever is a mirror of the Bowden lever for the advance/retard - anyone else care to comment?
Cheers, Graeme
