OHV Douglas engine FE 162
« on: 11 Nov 2004 at 18:21 »
Hello,

I have aquired a Douglas engine 2 month ago in Germany. Engine Nr. is FE 162. The condition is like new. The compression seems to be xtremely high due to the special pistons.

Can anyone give me some more information in which motorcycle this engine belongs, when was it produced ?

Thanks

Martin :?:

Martin,

Prefix 'FE' belongs to the 68x68mm Model RA engine, and as it is a low number, likely to be 1923.  RA models had the gearbox mounted to the top rear of the crankcase.  Tom Sheard won the 1923 Senior TT on an RA; they cataloged the model for the sporting public the following year.  All in all a very sought after engine.  RA were cataloged up to 1925.  Frame prefix would be DF, and gearbox prefix MG.

Thanks Doug,

I guess it will be quiet difficult finding any further parts
like frame, forks, gearbox...

Since i am a new member in this round I want to say that
the homepage and the forums are really very interresting
for Douglas-fans.

Thanks again,

Martin
