1912 Douglas racing machines, other than Harry Bashall

Rex Mundy during 1912 season. Venue not stated, but background similar to photo of S.L. Baliey captioned at the French GP. Note interesting chain drive to transmission outboard of the flywheel.





T. Kickham, venue not stated.





Previously published picture of Willie Douglas. Not much to see of the machine, but good study of handlebar control layout, and racing togs of the period!

in fact these are the best  because you are providing the history along with it , because ours douglas are history itself

I agree with Jailboni, these photographs are great!

After looking at these pictures I have noticed that there are two different size fuel tanks. Mundy and Haslems machine have larger tanks as the gear change rods run through a vertical tunnel in the tank. And Kickhams machine has the rod on the out side.

I guess this might be because Kickhams picture may have been taken earlier in the year where the other two in the latter half of the year.
Douglas may have changed the capacity of the fuel tank during the year as all latter machines seem to have the larger tanks.

I am not so sure Kickham's machine does have the shift rod passing to the outside of the petrol tank. I would expect a stronger shadow line against the tank. The lower edge of the tank does seem to cut off the rod, and the boss for the tram handle looks inboard of the tank edge. I think it is just a vertical streak of dirt giving a false impression of the rod being on the outside.
