Second fuel tap on tank of 2 3/4
« on: 31 May 2006 at 06:01 »
Does anyone know the function of the second tap located on the tank of the 2 3/4 Douglas. I understand the first is a fuel tap , the second though alludes me. It is located closer to the rider in line with the petrol tap.I have checked pictures of the same era and only found a single tap. Is my tank from a later model?

thanks in advance michael

It is usually used as a fuel drain. I sometimes have a tap and sometimes just a blanking bolt

All of my 2.3/4 hp models (four) and others I have ridden have two taps in the base of the petrol tank. One is obviously the fuel tap. Ian is correct, the other is the drain tap which terminates with a little cone shaped nipple. An interesting point is that the original Douglas drain taps have the tap operating in the opposite way from the fuel tap, i.e. the drain is shut off when the tap lever is in line with the tap body. The fuel tap is shut off when the lever is at a right angle to the fuel line. On some early models the drain tap is on the other side of the tank from the fuel tap and at the front. Chris
