2006 Cooma Girder Fork Rally
« on: 30 Aug 2006 at 05:55 »
I have been placing notices about suitable rallies in this section of the forum - not sure if it is really worth the effort as they seem to be religiously ignored - but here goes again !!

One of the best rallies for older bikes is the Cooma Girder Fork Rally in NSW. It is only open to bikes manufactured 1947 or earlier that are fitted with girder type forks (they are pretty loose on this definition but teles need not apply !!). Deserted smooth roads and the hills are maneagable - I will be riding a single speed veteran on the first day !!

The runs are suitable for girder fork Douglases. I will have my 2.75 there for the Sunday although will probably ride my veteran on the Saturday. Another friend is definitely riding his 2.75 both days. I had hoped to have the OC ready but will not quite make it. Anyone interested ?

Entry form is attached - dates for this year are 14-15 October.

Looks as though we will have a few Douglas machines in attendance - I know of three 2.75hp and one 3.5hp outfit - anyone else going to be there this weekend ?

Was an interesting weekend for the Douglas machines - the 3.5hp veteran had a wheel hub collapse, one 2.75hp had a pushrod nut that kept coming undone and failed to proceed and another broke what we think is a conrod. Mine only was used on Sunday but ran OK. A 75% failure rate is not good - hopefully we can get the all reliable by the time of the Douglas Rally next year !!

Ian - you forgot to mention about the seat spring breaking on your 2.75. Does this make a 100% failure rate? ;-)

Graeme, I guess from your description of "the seat became squishy" it was a problem rather than a failure !! At least it made it back to the motel at the end !!
