Tracking down a Douglas
« on: 12 Jan 2006 at 21:57 »
Hello to all , Michael here. I have a photo of my Grandfather on a Douglas in Baghdad in World War 1 . The number plate has  "B 641" ( ? ) on it . Is there a possibility to track the origin of the bike. I understand to find that particular bike would be a miracle. I would like to know what company/regiment it was from.

regards Michael

Michael,

A larger photo might help us get a closer look at the bike. If you have a larger scan - up to 10mb is OK - please send your photos to the address shown in this topic and we'll add a close-up to your message.

cheers, Dave

G'day Michael & all
The rego No is from "Lancashire" UK.....does that ring a bell with you?
Not sure how you go about finding out about rego No's in the UK......Micheal Worthington-Williams from OBM seems to know all about that side of things.
Maybe if you contact Micheal he could follow through with some info...he does charge for these services I think you will find.
Howard.

Here's a more detailed picture that can be blown up in a windows picture fax viewer. Hope this helps.
I've also included the back of the picture where my Grandad discusses the bike and his trip to date farm in Baghdad. I do love how he describes the bike as " The bike I do the fancy stunts on"

cheers Michael

P.S. Thank you to the forum editors for fixing up my bad attempt at scanning
