handlebar weights

can anyone inform me as to what the domed alloy or steel weights in the end of handlebars of t35 and various other motorcycles are used for
is it just fall over protection or does it serve another purpose

There are many opinions this, but they do serve as vibration dampers.  The incressed mass changes the moment of inertia (I^4), thus, the vibration amplitude at a given frequency.  They also serve as crash pads, but the reality is: if you handle bars are touching the ground, you have bigger problems.
