My 1923 TS Model

1923 Douglas 2.3/4 h.p. TS Model
Here are some pictures of my TS. This example found in Kent had been in the same family for three generations. It was purchased by the vendor's grandfather in 1936, for the modest sum of half a crown (12.5p), from the local school gardener in Deal, Kent, as a non runner on its way to scrap. It was repaired to running order by him and used in his duties as a Doctor and subsequently during WW2 for which he received an official petrol allowance. The old log-book is stamped for each issue of fuel. The insurance policy document for 1942 with his son (the vendor's father) as a named rider and a manuscript letter dated 1943 describing its purchase and repairs made are part of the provenance of this machine. Subsequent research has revealed its original sale in 1923 was by the famous Gamage's department store (now extinct) to a Mr Barker, also of Deal.

I carried out the restoration commencing in December 2003 and it was completed 6.5 months later in July 2004. A flywheel clutch, manufactured from scratch as a copy of my CW clutch, together with a double hand lever, modified sprockets and chain guard were added in early 2005. At the LDMCC Gymkhana in June 2005, it was awarded The Horace Rye Cup as Pre-1945 Concours Winner. It subsequently completed runs in the UK and on the continent without problems.

Another splendid restoration job - looks like the judges thought so too! - congratulations Chris! - some scans from the old logbook and/or other documents would make interesting posts if you can manage it sometime.
