I am pretty desperate for a rear cylinder for my veteran Douglas 1917 2 3/4hp "W" model.   I there is anyone who may have one of these that can be re-sleeved or know where I may find one I would be very pleased for the help.  I have a number of engine parts that I can exchange such as matching crankcases, conrods, crankshaft, flywheel etc. Any help appreciated.

Does anyone have the specifications for the oil inlet valve spring for early 2 3/4 engines - Part number 424.   I have tried to order one from the club spares but apparently Jeff Swan is indisposed at the moment.

Hi All,

Just a question that I've always wondered,

What exactly are the differences between a Mark 1 & a Mark 3.  (not Mk 3 Sports just standard machines please).

Cheers,

Dawn.

Hi Dawn,
From memory the main differences are:

The engine on the Mk1 has different heads, barrels and pistons. The flywheel/clutch assembly only has 3 pins through the flywheel and also less rivets in the centre boss of the clutch plate.

The gearbox has a slightly different shaped main casing and different selector mechanism.

The mudguards and rear numberplate are peculiar to the Mk1.

The Mk1 toolbox has flat sides whereas the Mk3 is slightly domed.

The Mk1 headlight has a flat glass.

The Mk1 had a straight pull twistgrip and carbs with covered bellmouths with vent holes around the sides.

There may also be other detail differences.

                   Regards,
                                  Eddie.

Cheers Eddie.

Have some new members in the section with those models, so its nice to know the differences.

Dawn.
