Title: Horns

I now have a 1911 Model E in my shed which I will be registering soon. One thing I have to get for it is a horn. What would have been available in that era ?

Almost certainly some form of bulb horn.
And possibly sourced as an accessory.
Factory fitted didn't come until VERY much later ?
(Is anything shown at all in the brochure)

This has been discussed here before - for a later era.
Older types are skinny, later ones plumper and/or curlier (?)
P&H was mentioned, to match the headlamp etc type.
But this is possibly wishful thinking ?

My thoughts too re thinner buldb horns - thanks.
I have a mechanical klaxon here I might put on temporarily to get through rego then try to source something reasonable. There is a crowd does replica lucas ones but they are a bit later

Hi Ian,

The horn for 1911 models shown in the Douglas Catalogue for that year is quite a "curly" one!. I have only seen one (or a very similar one) of these for sale (at a Maleny swap meet) and that was a while ago - and unfortunately for me it was already in the hands of the person who had just bought it mere seconds beforehand!

Also attached is a period picture of a well accessorised 1911 Model E found on the web - complete with similar horn. Not sure how many 1911 Model E's would have this style of horn originally - but at least one! :-).

Yes quite fancy :-) Here is another period picture of a Duggie with a similar horn - I hope you can manage to find one !

Having looked into this a little further, I might amend that to early ones could be quite curly indeed,
and later became plainer !
Some of the car ones were truly elaborate - seemingly intent on outdoing each other. ?

Someone in the USA is peddling Indian newly made ones.

And in Oz as bike (bicycle) horns, very inexpensive indeed. Is that a chrome or nickel finish ?

The curly horns make sense, the little straight horns are very squeaky

Hi Graeme, just sorting out rego items. Will take a few pics next week when I have to out to for for inspection. Will have it in Bundy in August.
