Title: wet points
Post by: yosemite on 19 May 2018 at 13:56
Came home  on the Douglas T35 in the rain then had to leave it outside the garage overnight as I was working onn the mark 4. Yesterday whenI came to start it there was no life checked for spark an it was missing, changed plugs to no avail, Did not have time to investigate properly until today. whenI took points cover of back of mag to find they were ful of water. when Idried it all out the bike started 2nd kick
Is there meant to be a seal betwen the bakelite cover oor will I have to resort to a bead of silicone to prevent further water ingress?

Are you sure the water got in the cover and not down the advance/retard cable? I wouldn't resort to silicone sealer as that will only impede any roadside repairs (should they be necessary). A smear of Vaseline around the rim of the cover should prevent any further ingress of water.

P.S.  It would be a good idea to re-oil the cable - otherwise it may be seized when you next go to use the bike.
