Title: Number Plate Holder T35
Post by: douglas1947 on 10 Jun 2015 at 05:16
My 3 T35 bikes have all "modified" rear number plates.
I would like to reproduce the original number plate holder for T35. I think all models had the same???
Has anyone a drawing, measures or a photo?

Michael,
Machines from Mk3 onwards all had the same rear numberplate holder. The T35 (or Mk 1 as it later became known) had basically the same shape holder but the top support was wider and the holder was welded to the removable tail section of the mudguard.
  Hope this helps,
  Regards,
                 Eddie.

Hello Eddie,

thanks for the information.
So there are 2 types of number plates and my MK1 needs a different one as the MK5 and 90+.

I have wondered about the the holes for the srews in the mudguards  -  the MK 1 has a longer distance from bottom to the top hole!

(The MK1 had a bad fitted plate - I think it is a Triumph one; the other bikes have BSA plates.)

I hope someone can send a photo.

On pictures in my Douglas books is never a view from the backside of a T35!!!

Hi Daren,

many thanks for the photo.
Are on top of your plate 2 srews?

On all of  my 3 mudguards are only one srew hole 1 top and 2 on the bottom.

Michael,
The T35 Mk1 rear numberplate holder is welded to the tail of the mudguard (there are no bolts). The rear mudguard on these machines is different to the later ones - the rear section is a separate piece which is bolted on at the rear of the subframe.  The numberplate holder on the Mk3 onwards machines has 3 fixing bolts - one at the top and 2 at the bottom. The numberplate holders with 2 bolts at the top are probably from a Douglas Dragonfly.
  Regards,
                Eddie.

Hi,

this was a test!
This time it works to send photos!

The plates are now painted an ready to fix to the mudguards.
Thanks again to Eddie, the MK1 plate is welded to the mudguard. On my MK1 mudguardI was able to see the old welding marks!
