Title: S6 oiling problem

Hi everyone
whilst dismantling S6 engine to try to sort out overoiling problem I found a small non return valve in the crankcase.  As this valve can be replaced either way up I cannot be sure  which way up it should be fitted, and exactly what its purpose is,and could it cause my overoiling problem.?  Hope someone can help.
