Title: Polarizing a dynamo
Post by: Jeffbo1 on 11 Jan 2013 at 03:39
I have a mechanic friend working on trying to figure out why my charging system on my Mk-V isn't producing any electricity...First off the lighting system is working when the engine is running, but upon testing the charging system (with the engine running) it appears that the battery is not receiving any voltage to sustain it....I suggested he try polarizing the armature by sparking it off the battery, and he questions how much or how many times to zap it...it seems that this hasn't rectified the situation....many thanks     Jeff

PS I keep the battery on a battery tender when the bike is parked so it stays up.

You only need to zap it once to get to start charging. I have read it in a book and it stated you should also do it when you remove the battery etc. Good Luck.
